Assignment Ideas

Today we were given our assignment for the term and were told to think about what emotions we would like to show in our photoshop and how we would show it. I came up with the idea of having two photos of me in the exact same position but pulling two faces - one happy and the other upset and distraught. When I get them both onto photoshop, I will pretend there is an imaginary line down the middle so one half is happy and the other half is sad. Kind of like a theatre mask.

Hopefully it all goes to plan!

Pineapple Tilly!

Tilly loves pineapples so I decided to photoshop her head onto a pineapple! I discovered how to duplicate the frame of the pineapple so I could make it look as if the top leaves of the pineapple were covered the top of her face. I also found out how to change the colour of an image so I turned Tilly's face orange like the arms of the original image :)

My edit

Today in creative media everyone was asked to take a photo of themselves and photoshop the image in someway or another. I got the idea of making myself look as if I was floating up in the clouds so I found a cloud background image from google, some hearts to go on the whites of my shirt and some angel wings. In order to do this, I had to use the magnetic lasso tool so I could accurately cut out my body so I could drop a cloud background behind it. This tool also saved heaps of time compared to the amount of time it would take me to paint brush out the original background. I also changed the opacity of the hearts to make some of the crinkles and folds in the shirt stand out. Therefore the hearts looked more realistic and didn't just look like hearts stuck on top of an image.
This is what the photo looked like at the end:

Different Emotions

Surprised/shocked

The photo below shows a very surprised baby. You can tell its in some form of shock or surprise through the way its eyes appear to have that 'popping out' look. Its mouth is slightly curved downwards which is the natural position the mouth would fall into after being surprised. This photo was actually a screen shot from a video on youtube of a baby being frightened by it's mother blowing her nose.

This photo is also of a surprised baby which can be shown through body language. His eyes have the same 'popping out' effect as the first baby and his mouth is in an 'O' shape which is another natural position mouths fall into when we get surprised as one of our first reactions is to take a gasp of air.

This lady below appears to have just heard something she was not at all expecting to hear! Once again, her eyes appear to have that popping out of their sockets look and her mouth has been left hanging wide open.

Sadness

This photo of Leonardo De Caprio was taken during a very sad scene in one of the many movies he stars in. You can tell by the the way his skin has turned a shade of pink around his eyes and nose that he has obviously been crying. His eyebrows are frowning and his eyes seem like they're yelling out for someone to come and save him from his misery. His mouth is in a shape of disbelief.

This next photo is of a women who looks totally helpless and lost in what ever has happened to her. It's like she has been crying over something for so long that no more tears can come out of her, so she has been left there with an expressionless and empty look on her face.

This picture is of little girl who seems to be very upset due to the fact that she's in hysterics crying over something. Even though her hair is slightly covering her face, you still get the idea of the emotions of loneliness, emptiness and sadness. Her bottom lip is curved under her top and her face is scrunched up from crying so hard.

Happiness

This photo of Marilyn Monroe is of her naturally laughing. The way her eyes squint and her mouth smiles is a way that we can tell she's happy and enjoying herself.

In this picture all three of the girls are laughing and having a great time together at the beach. You can tell they're smiles aren't put on by looking at their body language - especially the two girls in the middle and on the right as they're slightly arching over from laughing so hard.

This photo of Niall Horan also shows laughter and happiness. His eyes are squinted and he's got a massive smile going right across his face which in a way, makes you want to feel like smiling too.

Julia Gillard-Orange

Now that most of us have a rough idea of how to photoshop two images together, (such as what was shown in the Treemu photo) we were all told to go to google and find two images that we wanted to create into a make-believe photo. The idea that popped into my head was to photoshop Julia Gillard into an orange. So I found a photo of both her and an orange, photoshopped them together and here is what I got:

From doing this, I could practise my skills on how to erase certain areas in a photo (for this instance, areas on the face around the eyebrows, eyes, mouth and nose) and make them look like they are part of an inanimate object.

The Treemu

The few first lessons in creative media have overall been a very enjoyable experience and I've learnt many new photoshopping skills through using Adobe Photoshop. I've also learnt not to believe that the photos of models I see in newspapers are real! Because photoshop can be very powerful to the human eye and can trick us into thinking a person looks much more different in a photo to what they actually do in real life.
Our class' first mini project was to photoshop a tree frog and an emu together, creating what we called a 'Treemu.' The steps were quite simple as long as you kept close attention to Mr Powell's instructions. He told us to always line up the eyes if you ever photoshop two faces of either an animal or person together because the eyes are 'the keys to the soul.' If they are lined up correctly, the finishing product will look quite realistic, which can be proved in this photo of my creation:

We were also taught how to duplicate the frame of the emu head and how to split it into two sections. We did this in order to change the colour of the beak and hair. I thought that my treemu looked pretty cool and I especially liked the part when I made his eyes transform through the emu head layer as it really helped make this creature look realistic. I also learnt how to create a mask of an image so I could rub out unnecessary areas with the paintbrush tool and also bring back areas I accidentally rubbed out with the erasing tool. When doing this to a mask I like to think of the opposite to paint brush and rubber because if you need to rub out something, you’d go to the paint brush, where as if you were to bring something back you accidentally rubbed out, you would use the rubber.
